Pottawattamie County, Iowa Area WW II Dead Roster - Their Deaths:
- Viewing the WW II Dead roster by member's death locale.
I divided roster members death locales into six areas:
- War with Japan - deaths in the War with Japan.
- Battle of the Atlantic - War with Germany deaths - Atlantic Ocean component.
- The Mediterranean Theater - War with Germany deaths - Mediterranean Theater of Operations.
- The European Theater - War with Germany deaths - European Theater of Operations.
- Stateside - stateside WW II deaths while in service.
- After Separation - stateside deaths after reverting to civilian status.
In theater, in both the War with Japan and the War with Germany, United States armed forces deaths in the rear echelon among support troops were relatively uncommon.
- Most Army and Marine deaths were among divisional troops, most Army Air Force deaths were among flight crews.
- Most Navy deaths were among ship or air crewmen.
Among the over 450 dead in my roster, about 58 died in the United States while in service.
- Among these 58, about 27 died in air accidents. The number of accidental aviation deaths during World War II, both stateside and in theater, was horrendous.
- Stateside motor vehicle accidents claimed nine.
- On the bright side, deaths from infectious disease were far less common than in previous wars. At most 14 of the 58 stateside deaths were from illness.

Italy, one of the three Axis powers, was a lesser factor in WW II than Germany and Japan and left the Axis in 1943. Thus I ignore Italy by treating WW II as being of two parts, the War with Japan and the War with Germany.
