Pottawattamie County, Iowa Area WW II Dead Roster - Their Homes:
- Viewing the WW II Dead roster members by their home locale.
- Many had lived in multiple locales; I show no more than two locales.
I divided roster members' home locales into seven areas:
- Council Bluffs - held over half the population of Pottawattamie County.
- Rural Pottawattamie County - the remainder of Pottawattamie County.
- Harrison County - north of Pottawattamie County.
- Mills County - south of Pottawattamie County.
- Shelby County - north of Pottawattamie County.
- Other Iowa Counties.
- Other States - Nebraska, Missouri and California were most common.
About these seven webpages:
- Most roster members were from Pottawattamie County, Iowa, whose only city is the county seat of Council Bluffs. The larger city of Omaha, Nebraska is across the Missouri River to the west.
- Army/AAF records list a dead veteran under the county of current residence when entering service (usually where working), rather than the county of permanent residence (e.g., where parents lived). Thus these records often show roster members in an unexpected county or state.
- Navy/Marine records list a dead veteran under the state of residence of next of kin; in these records a married veteran appears under his wife's county of residence rather than his parent's county.
