- Generally separation from service involved a discharge but sometimes a change from active duty to reserve status.
- We will never know how many of the early deaths noted in these two webpages were attributable to psychic or physical wounds incurred during military service.
- The major source for these webpages is ancestry.com's database Iowa Bonus Case Files for Beneficiaries.
- The term service related cause in these bonus case files can be misleading. Service related cause often means the individual became ill before separation, not that military service caused the illness.
- I use the abbreviations of sep. for separation from service and vet. for veteran.
- Currently the latest death date herein is 14 December 1949.
