- 18 July - Polish Corps captures port of Ancona on the Adriatic.
- 25 August - Operation Olive offensive begins in British Eighth Army sector.
- 9 September - US Rome-Arno Campaign ends.
- 10 September - US Northern Apennines Campaign begins.

During the US Fifth Army Reorganization, June & July 1944:
- Fifth Army lost most of its experienced divisions, as VI Corps and FEC (French Expeditionary Corps) were withdrawn for the southern France invasion,
- IV Corps became active on Fifth Army's left wing.
- II Corps was inactive much of the time.
- late in this period, British XIII Corps was assigned to Fifth Army's right wing.
- After the fall of Rome, the British 1st and 5th divisions, which had participated in the Anzio Campaign, reverted to British Eighth Army control. The British 5th Infantry Division was sent to Palestine in Jul 1944, returning to Italy in early 1945.
- 8 June - 1st Armored Division withdrawn from VI corps for conversion from heavy armored division to light armored division, reassigned to IV Corps 16 June.
- 11 June - VI Corps replaced on Fifth Army's left wing by IV Corps (Willis Crittenberger), with 36th Infantry Division transferred from VI Corps to IV Corps.
- 15 June - VI corps, along with the 3rd and 45th Infantry Divisions, reassigned from Fifth Army to Seventh Army.
- 26 June - 34th Infantry Division reassigned from VI Corps to IV Corps.
- 12 July - 36th Infantry Division reassigned from IV Corps to VI Corps.
- 24 July - 34th Infantry Division reassigned from IV Corps to Fifth Army.
- VI Corps with 3rd, 36th and 45th Infantry divisions left with VI Corps to prepare for the 15 August 1944 invasion of southern France.
- 22 July - Fifth Army lost the last of the French Expeditionary Corps of three divisions, being transferred to participate in the southern France invasion. The French sector was turned over to the British XIII Corps
