bigpigeon.us webpage WWII - Japan > Central Pacific > Pacific Comm. Zone, updated by RAC 18 May 2022..
This webpage will hold content related to the war in the Pacific but from behind the combat zone. I view the Pacific Comm. (Communications) Zone as initially forming a broad arc, starting at the Anchorage area in Alaska Territory, south through Hawaii Territory, then arcing south and west through numerous island chains in the south Pacific, passing through New Caledonia and finally ending in Australia.
As the War with Japan progressed after 1942, the Comm. Zone grew in size, moving northwest in the Southwest and South Pacific and west in the Central Pacific. However, Hawaii always remained the linchpin; thus I have placed this webpage under the Central Pacific. Except for the Japanese aerial attacks on Hawaii in December 1941 and Japanese submarine attacks, combat seldom reached the Comm. Zone. |
