Pottawattamie County, Iowa Area WW II Dead Roster - Post-Service Deaths
  • These roster members survived their WW II service but died before 1950.
  • sep. = separation from service, which in WW II was generally a discharge but sometimes meant status change from active duty to reserve.
  • Some veterans were still hospitalized, as in veteran's hospitals, after separation.
  • Little on-line data exists for veterans who died after separation.
  • My major source was the ancestry.com database Iowa WW II Bonus Case Files for Beneficiaries.
  • The term service related cause in the bonus case files can be misleading. It sometimes means the individual became ill before separation, not that military service caused the illness.
