  • Notes: Mack Steele is credited as one of the 50 US Rangers who participated in the ill-fated Allied raid on Dieppe, France on 19 Aug 1942, and as one of the fifteen who actually landed during the raid. Gp., Fifth Air Force; based on Mindoro, Philippines; Consolidated B-24L2 Liberator #44-49432 Jolly Rogers pilot; KIA  approaching target at Takao, Formosa 18 Feb 1945; aircraft hit by flak, lost left wing, spiraled out of control, crashed and exploded; of 13 on board, five parachuted; of these five, four were captured; of these four, three were later executed.
