  • ​Avoca lies on the West Nishnabotna River in northeastern Pottawattamie County.
  • Avoca was established in 1869 along the newly-laid tracks of the main line of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, earlier known as the Mississippi and Missouri Railroad.
  • Today the railroad tracks are gone and Interstate 80 passes through the north edge of Avoca.
