  • Notes: The 17th Bomb. Gp. planes were attacked by 12 German ME-262 jet fighters from the elite Luftwaffe squadron JV-44 led by General Adolf Galland; Galland shot down two B-26s, his 103rd and 104th kills; an escorting P-47D Thunderbolt fighter damaged Galland's plane and injured Galland; Galland managed to return to the JV-44 base near Munich but this was his last mission; Howard's crew of six was lost but I don't know if his plane was one of the two shot down by Galland.
