Cuppy's Grove, northeast of Avoca, is named for Adam Cuppy. Adam Cuppy lived on four frontiers, was a guide to young Grenville Dodge, and was lynched in 1865 for a crime committed by his minor son. He was the grandfather of Dr. A. A. Edgington, for whom the Avoca city park is named.
