Unfortunately the move into the Potawatomi Reserve did not go smoothly. Originally the displaced Indians were placed in what is now northwestern Missouri, to maximize the distance between the now-peaceful displacees and the warlike Sioux to the north. However, in the Platte Purchase of 1837, Missouri acquired this corner and forced native inhabitants to move.
