Synopsis:  My eight great-grandparents all left rural Denmark and immigrated to Pottawattamie County between 1867 and 1886, settling north of Council Bluffs in Boomer and Hazel Dell Townships. In this farming area on the east edge of Iowa's loess hills, my great-grandparents lived out their lives, as did most of their children. My great-grandparents all died at home or in a child’s home, and are buried, as are my grandparents, in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Boomer Township, about eight miles west of Neola, Iowa.

About My Family History:
  • Robert Christiansen's Family History, my extended family history traces all four branches of my family back to Denmark and includes many collateral relatives. I hope some future family members will find it of interest.
  • From this webpage you can access the four volumes of my family history, each focusing on the family of a great-grandparent (Christiansen, Rasmussen, Larsen and Hansen) and older descendants and relatives.
  • All of my grandparents except Andrew Larson were born in Denmark and came to the United States as children.
  • Two Christiansen brothers married Rasmussen sisters, and two Larson brothers married Hansen sisters. The resulting four families are covered in the Christiansen and Larsen volumes of Robert Christiansen's Family History.  Thus, those researching Rasmussens might also look in the Christiansen volume, and those researching Hansens might look in the Larsen volume.
  • Access a volume by clicking on one of the four volume hotspots above. This opens the family access page,  The first part listing the chapters in that volume.  The second part might help you pinpoint the chapter of interest to you.
  • From this page you can also also access my various reports about allied families. These are families related to my spouse or to my children and their spouses.
  • In addition to text, my family history reports contain some maps, a few photos, and many pedigree and descendant charts produced from my St. Paul's database file. I hope to make my history more interesting by adding more photos later.
  • Printing my full family history would require printing over thirty separate MS Word .docx files and some .rtf files and use over a ream of paper. Thus, future use of my family history will ordinarily be through this website.
  • When finished viewing a chapter, use your web browser to return to the website.

Finding Additional Help:
  • The Family History Origins report includes maps locating my family roots in Denmark.
  • If you are confused by the Denmark-related material in my family history (such as the Danish words I use), please look at my About Denmark supplement in the website Resources area.  About Denmark contains some very basic information and associated links.  I intend About Denmark to provide vocabulary help and some background that will help you begin to understand Denmark.
  • If you'd like to know more about Pottawattamie County, Iowa, look at the Local History area.

My Family History Sources:
  • The immediate source for the narrative and charts in my family history is a large database I call St. Paul’s.  I began St. Paul’s around 1998, and it now contains some data for over 46,000 individuals who have some family connection to rural northwestern Pottawattamie County, Iowa.
  • I keep my St. Paul’s database on my MacBook Pro computer.  For a number of reasons, St. Paul’s will never be on the Internet.  However, if you think members of your family might be included and would like some information, please contact me.
  • The final chapter of each family history volume contains additional information about my content sources for that chapter.
  • I am building a general Acknowledgments page in the Home website area. The on-line and print resources used in my research are in the Resources website area.

To those whose family history is outlined herein:
  • Some family history chapters have two versions, the longer private version stored on my computer with the shorter public version on this website. For privacy reasons the shorter version contains little information on my cousins' families.
  • In keeping with genealogical protocol, I try to minimize what my Web content says about living individuals.
  • However, there may be instances when you find material, such as birthdates for living members of your family, that you feel does not belong in a public setting.
  • In such instances, please contact me with your concerns via the contact form at the bottom of the Usage Hints webpage and we will work out an accommodation.
