bigpigeon.us webpage Family > Wall of Honor, updated by RAC 10 Feb 2020.
  • The Wall of Honor is located at the Museum of Danish America, just west of Elk Horn, Iowa. On this wall, small bronze plaques honor those who emigrated from Denmark and settled in the United States.
  • There are Wall of Honor plaques for all eight of my great-grandparents, my great-grandmother Larsen's first husband, my three grandparents who were born in Denmark, and five great-aunts and great-uncles who were born in Denmark and immigrated.
  • Generally these honorees have associated documentation, which may sometimes complement the documentation contained here in my family history.

As of August 2013 I know of the following family members memorialized on the Wall of Honor.  I have included their relationship to me, their plaque location (column and row), and, when known, their I.D. number.
  • Christian Christiansen and Ane Kirstine (Jensen) Christiansen, great-grandparents, 77-1 & 77-2
  • Christen Ole Christiansen, great-uncle, 78-1
  • James P. "Jim" Christiansen, grandfather, 78-2
  • Lars Christian Rasmussen and Karen Marie Andersen, great-grandparents, 72-14, #41524
  • Rasmine "Minnie" (Rasmussen) Christiansen, grandmother, 69-39, #40319
  • Peter and Alvina (Rasmussen) Bondo, great-uncle and aunt, 33-13, #1362
  • Anders Larsen (great-grandmother's first husband, 77-3, #44509
  • Maren (Larsen) Larsen, great-grandmother, 77-4, #44510
  • Niels (Christensen) Larsen, great-grandfather, 77-5, #44511
  • Christine (Larsen) Linsel, great-aunt, 78-3
  • Dorthe (Hansen) Hansen and Peter Hansen, great-grandparents,  78-4 & 78-5, #47350 & #47351
  • Karen Margrethe (Hansen) Larson, grandmother, 60-28, #4899
  • Hans Peter Hansen, great-uncle, 78-6, #47352
  • Rev. Laurits Christian Hansen, great-uncle, 78-7, #47353

Here is my recollection of how the above individuals came to be on the Wall of Honor, in the order of their recognition:
  • My great-aunt, Alvina (Rasmussen) Bondo was placed by her descendants.
  • My great-grandparents, Lars Christian Rasmussen and Karen Marie Andersen, were placed by their great-grandchildren.
  • My grandmother, Karen Margrethe (Hansen) Larson, was placed by her grandchildren after the 2003 Larsen/Larson Cousins' Reunion.
  • My grandmother, Rasmine "Minnie" (Rasmussen) Christiansen was placed by her granddaughter, Carolyn Christiansen, in honor of my daughters, Tanya and Natasha Christiansen.
  • My great-grandparents, Niels (Christensen) Larsen and Maren (Larsen) Larsen, were placed by their great-grandchildren in honor of their cousin, the late Lawrence Andrew "Larry" Larsen.
  • My great-grandmother's first husband, Anders Larsen, was placed by his great-great grandchildren in honor of their cousin, the late Lloyd Louis Larson.
  • My great-grandparents, Peter Hansen and Dorthe (Hansen) Hansen, and their children, Hans Peter Hansen and Rev. Laurits Christian Hansen, were placed by their great-grandchildren.
  • YMy great-grandparents, Christian Christiansen and Ane Kirstine (Jensen) Christiansen, along with his son, Christen Ole Christiansen, and their son, James P. "Jim" Christiansen, were placed by their great-grandchildren.
  • My great-aunt, Christine (Larsen) Linsel, was placed by the Christiansen siblings in honor of our three old aunts, Ethel (Larson) Torneten, Helen (Larson) Petersen and Evelyn (Larson) Sherbondy, and it recognition of the accession of Aunt Christine's hair wreath, contributed by the Torneten family, into the collection of the Museum of Danish America.
